The Second Agriculture and Food Policy Systems Information Workshop was held in Clearwater Beach, Florida, February 28-March 3, 1996. Building on the format and successes of the first workshop, the organizers addressed trade and policy issues in the dairy industries of the two countries. The objective of the organizers was to reduce the level and impact of policy differences and stressed trading relationships between Canada and the United States through dissemination of balanced economic information and foster improved mutual understanding by participants and decision makers of policies, programs, institutions and economic forces of change.

The coordinating committee for this workshop included two U.S. economists-- Ron Knutson from the Agriculture and Food Policy Center, Texas A & M University and Dan Sumner from the University of California at Davis; and three Canadians-- Karl Meilke, Department of Agricultural Economics and Business, University of Guelph; Jack Gellner, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and and R.M.A. Loyns, Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, University of Manitoba.

Direct funding for the program and printed publication came from three sources: the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Farm Foundation.
